Product Information

The 185 grain #8800 Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) SportsMaster bullets were designed primarily for the 45 Caliber Automatic Colt Pistol (45 ACP) cartridge. This bullets has the Sierra's Power Jacket and the same hollow point design as Sierra's 9mm and 10mm JHP SportsMaster bullets. They are suitable also for the 45 Auto Rim and the 45 Colt cartridges. The 45 Colt may require special attention when sizing cases during reloading due to a slight difference in bullet diameters. Some early 45 Colt revolvers were made for bullets of .454 inch diameter. When loaded to maximum velocities, this bullet is excellent for hunting up to large-size varmints and it is a very effective self-defense round.  This bullet is an outstanding choice for all around use in the 45 ACP.

Issues Feeding

I loaded these up for my micro .45 to try and reduce recoil. When test feeding by hand (not firing), the rounds wanted to hang up on the feed ramp as many hollowpoints tend to. However, when I took them out to shoot, as long as I really racked the slide back, the gun cycled perfectly fine. And I was very pleased with the results, just going down from 200 to 185 made the gun feel more akin to shooting a .38 spcl or 9mm +p round than a .45. But they were still very accurate and packed quite a punch on the paint cans I tested them on. I will definitely buy more but be weary that these might hang up on the feed ramp if you dont rack the slide hard enough!
