Product Information

The Hornady® SST® (Super Shock Tip) is designed to deliver tremendous shock on impact while expanding quickly and reliably, particularly at higher velocities.

Flat shooting and deadly accurate, it's an ideal bullet for whitetails, as well as most North American game animals from antelope to moose and similar-sized African plains game. The SST® creates a devastatingly large wound channel.

  • POLYMER TIP:  Upon impact, the hard polymer tip drives into the lead core like a wedge, initiating lightning-fast, yet controlled expansion.
  • SECANT OGIVE, BOATTAIL PROFILE:  Incorporating the pioneering Hornady secant ogive design, the tapered point, increased bearing surface and more aerodynamic profile, combined with a boattail base, makes the SST® more efficient with less drag and greater stability.
  • CANNELURE:  A mid-body cannelure helps keep the core and jacket together while providing a consistent, accurate crimp during the loading process.
  • INTERLOCK® RING:  This Hornady exclusive design mechanically locks the core and jacket together to maintain bullet integrity during expansion, ensuring maximum weight retention and increasing the chances of complete pass-throughs.

These shoot very accurately in my "tuned" 1917 Eddystone Enfield. Haven't tried them on game yet, but I expect them to perform great as other SST's I've used.

Hornady SST are simply the most economical and effective way to deliver terminal performance at long distances. These bullets in the Barnes ttsx are my two favorite projectiles for hunting. The SSD makes a bit more of a mess inside of the animal but it is highly effective in stopping them in their tracks. It is a more than acceptable projectile when it comes to accuracy also. It is hard to beat them for the money

These bullets work very well in my Savage Model 99. They shoot accurately and can group sub MOA at 100 yards if I do my part. Good performance on whitetail deer.

These 150gr SST bullets shoot well under MOA in my .30-06. Haven't tried them on deer yet, so I can't give them 5 stars. But they seem to be very promising.

The Hornady 30 cal.150 gr. SST is just about the perfect deer and antelope bullet. Good ballistic coefficient, great accuracy, and fast opening. They're also a little less expensive than some other bullets. The cannelure is handy for holding bullets used in semi-autos, but it is not mandatory to use. A particularly good .308 WCF bullet.

Here in Georgia, the deer don't grow as big as they do up north, but they are still tough! I have used these bullets for several years now, and they are just the right medicine for white-tails! They hold together well, and expand nicely. We rarely if ever get to see a recovered bullet, but those that we do find are well mushroomed.

I shot an antelope at 406 yards with this bullets out of my 3006 and it just rolled over, then another at 303 yards and didn't get more than 20 yards. Great bullet! My new go too bullet for my 30-06 and .308.

Tested these bullets in my Remington 700, 30-06. I loaded them with H4350, the "go to" powder for the 30-06. They grouped 1" @ 100 yards. I've yet to test them on deer but, I think they will prove effective. They make good long range coyote and target medicine when loaded to approximately 3,000 fps. They are better priced and every bit as good, if not better, than Nosler Ballistic Tips.
