Product Information

The Berger VLD Target Bullet is one of the flattest shooting bullets on the market today. Emulated by all others, the VLD Target bullet incoporates a secant ogive design which allows the bullet to experience less drag as it travels to the target. This reduced drag is why the VLD shoots flatter, experiences less wind-drift, and has a higher retained velocity than all others. A favorite load technique for the VLD’s is touching the rifling for single-shot applications, although some rifles may prefer as much as .150″ from the rifling. Berger VLD Target Bullets are extremely popular for competitive long range applications. Built with highly consistent J4 Precision Bullet jacket, most favored by custom bullet makers.

This is not loaded ammunition.

Accurate

Berger bullets always perform and even the VLD are more forgiving on seating depth. These bullets shoot tighter groups than many others I have tried.

Berger 22 (0.224) 70 grain VLD-TGT Review

By Geoffrey B. on Oct 19, 2023
I have hand loaded many high end 223 cartridges and have found the Berger 22 (0.224) 70 grain VLD-TGT projectile to be the most accurate for magazine length AR (1/7 & 1/8 twists) rifles. My first reloads shot sub-MOA groups without any tuning. A tip that I heard from Erik Cortina is to chose projectiles with the best ballistic coefficients and tightest tolerances and that proved ever so true for me.

Berger 70 Grain VLD

Like all Berger bullets, these are very quality bullets. Cartridge base to ogive was consistent within 0.002". I was able to shoot 5/16" groups at 100 yards on my initial load with this bullet using an arbitrary seating depth. I would expect to see even better group sizes with additional load development.

70 Grain Berger .224 VLD bullets

By S Peter P. on Feb 11, 2021
I shoot these, among other .224 bullets, out of 4 .22-.250's using H4350 or RL16 and soon to be StaBall.. My .22-.250 rifles all have 7.7 twists. Accuracy is extremely good and wind effects less than expected. Three reamers were used to chamber 4 rifles and I use 3 different seating depths but all bullets are seated some .010 back from lands. Super good performance at 500 yards and the label on the Berger box says they are excellent for varmints - don't have the expansion of plastic tip bullets on small rodents but swift sure end for rock chucks and probably would be the same for coyotes.

Berger 70 Grain VLD

Incredible bullet. With a rack grade AR with a 20" barrel, these bullets are letting me stretch out to 900 and even 1000 yards if the wind cooperates. Doesn't hurt that I'm at 4,000 + above sea level. But the bullets are consistent and definitely seem to shoot flatter than SMK's out at distance.
